The Auditory Neuroscience & Perception Lab (ANPL) is run by Professor Narayan Sankaran. We are housed within the Department of Neuroscience at the University of San Francisco.
Our research seeks a mechanistic account of how the human brain enables us to perceive and experience music. This insight informs our basic understanding of brain function and can drive the development of music-based interventions for treating mood, anxiety, and neurological disorders. To do this work, we take a multidisciplinary approach, combining human neurophysiological measurements of brain activity (using EEG, MEG, ECoG) with machine-learning, computational modelling, psychophysics and behavior.
